What is HYROX and why is Melbourne the one to race?
HYROX is a fitness race that mixes running with functional workout stations. Everyone does the same course in the same order, so your time in Melbourne can be compared with a time in Berlin or Chicago.
Melbourne is the biggest HYROX gathering in the southern hemisphere. The city hosted a HYROX Major at MCEC in December 2025 and the 2026 edition returns to the same venue with athletes flying in from across Asia Pacific.
Is HYROX Melbourne 2026 a Major? Not this time. The official event page lists it as BYD HYROX Melbourne, a standard race stop with World Championships qualification slots in certain Pro age groups. The atmosphere is anything but standard.
HYROX Melbourne 2026: dates, venue and the five race days
HYROX Melbourne 2026 runs Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 December 2026 at MCEC in South Wharf, right on the Yarra.
| Detail | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Dates | Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 December 2026 |
| Venue | Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Convention Centre Place, South Wharf VIC 3006 |
| Divisions | Singles (Open and Pro), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Relay and Adaptive categories |

Waves are staggered across all five days, so your start time could be a Wednesday morning or a Sunday afternoon. Check your confirmation email, then build your travel around it.
How much does it cost to do HYROX Melbourne?
Entry prices vary by division and release, so the official event page is the only place to trust for the current number. Doubles and Relay entries are priced per team, so split them with your mates.
Do spectators pay for HYROX?
Yes, spectators need a ticket. Your race wristband only covers the day you compete, so anyone watching you or anyone coming back to watch friends on another day needs a spectator ticket. Buy them on the event page or at the venue on the day unless they sell out.
The race format: 8 kilometres of running and 8 stations

Every HYROX race is 8 x 1km of running with a workout station after each kilometre. You run, you work, you run again. Eight times.
The stations always come in this order:
- SkiErg
- Sled Push
- Sled Pull
- Burpee Broad Jumps
- Rowing
- Farmers Carry
- Sandbag Lunges
- Wall Balls
Weights and reps change by division. Open is the entry point, Pro adds heavier loads and Doubles lets you share the station work with a partner while you both run every kilometre.
Most first-timers finish in around 90 minutes. Elite athletes finish under an hour. Either way you'll be hungry, sweaty and ready for a long shower.
Getting from Brunswick to MCEC on race day
The simplest route from Brunswick is the Upfield line train to Southern Cross Station, then a 10 minute walk to MCEC along Clarendon Street.
Here's how it breaks down:
- Train: Solarino House is about a one minute walk from Anstey Station on the Upfield line. Ride it into the City Loop and hop off at Southern Cross.
- Walk or tram from Southern Cross: MCEC says it's a 10 minute walk. If your legs are saving themselves, tram routes 96, 109 and 12 stop at 124A Casino/MCEC/Clarendon Street right outside the Clarendon Street entrance.
- Tram all the way: The route 19 tram runs down Sydney Road into Elizabeth Street. Change onto a 109 or 12 on Collins Street (or a 96 on Bourke Street) and ride to stop 124A.
Allow 35 to 45 minutes door to door and add a buffer on race morning. You want to arrive early to check your bag, warm up and find your wave. Melbourne now takes tap and go with a bank card or phone on trains and trams, so there's no need to hunt for a myki.
One heads up: route 96 doesn't run along Sydney Road. It runs along Nicholson Street in Brunswick East. If you're staying with us at Solarino House, the train is your friend.
Where to stay in Brunswick for HYROX Melbourne

Rambla @ Solarino House at 212-214 Albion Street, Brunswick, is our Apart-Hotel for athletes who want more than a room to crash in.
Brunswick sits about 5km north of the CBD. Sydney Road delivers the bakeries, cafes and late-night eats. Anstey Station gets you to the race. Solarino House puts all of it within walking distance while sitting far enough back for a great night's sleep before your wave.
Every apartment at Solarino House comes with:
- A full kitchen for race fuelling and recovery cooking
- In-apartment laundry so your kit is fresh for the next session
- Separate living and sleeping spaces to spread out and stretch
- Free high-speed WiFi and Chromecast TV
- Walk Right In keyless check-in with 24 hour guest support
- One complimentary secure car park per apartment for direct bookings, plus an EV charger and bike racks
There's a rooftop with BBQ and dining areas, a co-working space for anyone squeezing in a work day and Casa Chino downstairs for a celebratory dinner. Our things to do in Brunswick guide covers the neighbourhood in detail.
HYROX training in Melbourne before race week

Melbourne has a strong HYROX training scene and two of the best spots for a final tune-up are an easy trip from Solarino House.
- BOND Athletic, Level 1, 304 Nicholson Street, Fitzroy. An official HYROX Training Club running engine sessions focused on HYROX skills, pacing and race simulation.
- CrossFit North Carlton, 3 Kirkdale Street, Brunswick East. A community gym with a competition track for members prepping for HYROX and other events.
Book a casual session ahead of time, especially in race week when visiting athletes fill the timetable. Keep it light. Race week is for sharpening, not smashing.
If you'd rather move at your own pace, our Brunswick yoga, pilates and wellness guide covers mobility and recovery options within walking distance.
Race week logistics: fuelling, recovery and late finishes

Race week runs on food, sleep and timing. An apartment gives you control of all three.
Fuelling. A full kitchen means porridge at 5am, pasta the night before and a proper recovery meal after your wave. Stock up at the Sydney Road grocers and you're set for the week.
Recovery. Stretch out in the living room, take a long shower and put your feet up on your own couch. The space is yours to use however your body needs it.
Late finishes. Sunday afternoon waves finish late and midweek waves can leave you wandering back after dinner. Walk Right In keyless check-in means there's no front desk to wait on. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is 10am. If you want to land a day or two before your wave and settle in, stay the extra nights and get your race routine sorted.
Sunday brunch. Brunswick's bakeries are the reward. Our bakery guide has the shortlist, with A1 Bakery and Ovens Street Bakery a short stroll from your door.
Why an Apart-Hotel works harder than a standard room on race week
An Apart-Hotel gives an athlete space, a kitchen and laundry. A standard room gives you a bed and a kettle.
| What matters in race week | Standard room | Rambla @ Solarino House |
|---|---|---|
| Kit storage and gear | One suitcase stand | Separate living area with room to spread out |
| Race fuelling | Kettle station | Full kitchen, cook what you know works |
| Fresh kit | Paid laundry or the sink | In-apartment washer and dryer |
| Stretching | Between the bed and the wall | A living room floor to spread out on |
| Early starts and late finishes | Front desk hours | Walk Right In keyless check-in, 24 hour support |
| Bringing the crew | Two people per room | 1 and 2 bedroom apartments |
| Parking | Paid, often off-site | One complimentary secure space for direct bookings |
Stays closer to the venue put you in the middle of South Wharf. Brunswick puts you in a neighbourhood with a train line at the door and a kitchen that's yours. For a serious athlete on a five-day event, that's the better trade.
Staying the whole week? Our Roam Further offer takes 20% off stays of seven nights or more when you book direct.
